What is NATE certification?
North American Technician Excellence, or NATE, is a nonprofit certification organization for technicians in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. Intended to validate the proficiency of service and installation technicians, NATE certification tests represent real-world knowledge of HVAC systems. Contractors, manufacturers, and many others in the industry have come together to partner with NATE and develop the best standards for technicians. NATE was founded in 1997 with a vision to be the leader in developing professional HVAC technicians. The tests to achieve certification are rigorous and knowledge-based in order to confirm a technician’s knowledge. NATE candidates can earn Installation and/or Service certification in one or more specialty areas such as heat pumps or air conditioning.
